MARKET STUDIES

Over the past 20 years, hedge funds have transitioned from being marketed to a limited pool of wealthy individuals and friends and family, to being marketed to a broader group encompassing individuals and their distribution channels (private banks and family offices), funds of funds, and institutional investors (pension funds, insurance companies, savings institutions, foundations, etc.). The assets have tripled between 2000 and 2007.

The severe liquidity crisis in 2008 has some major impact on the hedge fund sector, forcing hedge fund managers to re-position their product range. The assets are likely to decrease by 50% in 2009.

Asterias has been through these different cycles of expansion and contraction and has helped numerous service providers and fund managers as well as institutional investors to identify new opportunities.

Some examples of what we have done in the past 10 years:

For service providers:
- How the hedge fund sector has evolved and will evolve? (statistics, type of players, successful business developments, new emerging business models ect..)
- Identifying client targets (profile, key decision makers)
- Conference organization to raise their profile in the hedge fund community
- Market surveys

For Fund managers:
- Peer group analysis
- Marketing advises to optimize their marketing presentations
- Advisory on how to enter specific markets
- Identifying investors’ targets in specific European countries
- Identifying potential agreements with local distribution channels

For end investors:
- Identifying the top fund managers by strategies
- Introducing managers
- Peer group analysis
